Alex Cross is an upcoming American crime thriller film directed by Rob Cohen, starring Tyler Perry, Matthew Fox, and Rachel Nichols. It was adapted from the twelfth Alex Cross novel Cross by James Patterson in a screenplay written by Marc Moss and Kerry Williamson and is due for release on October 19, 2012.

Plot Summary

Dr. Alex Cross (Tyler Perry) meets his match when he goes against Michael "The Butcher" Sullivan/"Picasso" (Matthew Fox). As Cross investigates the hitman's gruesome and sadistic murders, Sullivan decides to send him a deadly message by killing his wife in cold blood. Enraged, Cross vows to hunt down the killer, if it's the last thing he does. However, Sullivan is a mastermind and continues to evade Cross while pushing him to an ethical breaking point as a cop and father. As Cross closes in on the killer, he discovers evidence that points to the unimaginable- a revelation that can change everything.

Production Notes

  • Idris Elba had originally been considered to take over as Alex Cross from Morgan Freeman. Idris had previously starred in Tyler Perry's film Daddy's Little Girls.
  • Matthew Fox went through a strict diet and workout routine to gain muscle and lose a high amount of body fat.
  • Filming began in August 2011 in Cleveland, Ohio and moved to Detroit, Michigan in September, concluding in October.
  • This is the first lead role for Perry in a movie in which he hasn't directed, written or produced.
